Just picked up the
BOSS Audio Systems BVCP9700A- FL Car Stereo on Amazon. A dry fit is showing that it will allow for the top vents to be used as well as access to any switches directly below. The unit has a secure mount free from jostling around while driving but can be moved vertically up/down with some push. Can also pivot left or right horizontally so you can have the screen face you rather than the standard flat face of most cars. It sits a tad outside of the fascia but it's very minimal (it's what allows you to angle it more towards your face). Has a dedicated Android Auto/ Apple Carplay USB cord and a USB 3.1(?) port. I paired it with the BATIGE USB 3.0 to Type C 3.0 Car Mount Flush Cable Dual Port Male to Female Extension found
here (You will need to remove the fascia to clamp it down from the back)
As mentioned, it's a dry fit for now... having some issues with sourcing the power to get it up and running. Previous owner did some stupidity with wiring that has melted my brain. Different colored wires crimped onto different colored wires * Jackie Chan WTF Face * It's been awhile since I tackled a stereo install but I'll get this figured out... all the radio fuses have been checked, tested the speaker wires and they are not making a noise when prompted with a AA battery. Wish me luck!
Once it's all up and running, I will have a more thorough review of it all. Very hopefully this works as an affordable, secure and modern solution. A pic of the Dry Fit:
