Cigar Lighter Illuminated?

SE TURBO 1991....should it have lamp or not? Circuit diagrams say yes, can't find one though. What d;ya reckon?

me thinks theres a bulb behind the dash to find and replace . . .

Thanks for the quick response AV8NDOC. Was that the post that said the lamp holder falls out behind the fascia or did I dream that I tried the search today, but didn't find anything enlightening

Found a post but seems inconclusive to me. I have pulled the lighter out of the dash, (remove lighter, bend metal of lighter metal body (inwards) out of the way of the orange surround that is visible in two small rectangular cut outs of the lighter holder body). I can't see a bulb holder or bulb. However, there is a small triangular " spike" of plastic that seems to have no purpose , visible from through the hole vacated by the lighter and its surround. Are there any 1991 SE owners, or knowledge person out there who can confirm/ deny any illumination of the orange coloured lighter surround Your help would be much appreciated.

I just went out and checked and it definitely does illuminate.

ESM - Thanks for looking and letting me know.

I have now managed to remove the orange surround (without breaking it) and there is a bulb holder attached to it. Thanks for the help everyone, bulb replaced, problem solved

Same thing for the ventilation and heating/fan controls if not illuminated. There's a couple of wee bulb holders and a couple of even smaller bulbs which are a bit of a fiddle to change - just like most of the bulbs on the M100

Rambo, I have found this out also. Changed so far, cigar lighter bulb and tiny weeny, soldered bulb behind rear fog light legend in the switch plus reseated bulb for heater control illumination.

If your cigar lighter isn't working but it is illuminated, check the 15A fuse in the passenger footwell

how did you get the cigar lighter thing out of the dash without taking the dash out.....or have i missed that you had the dash out?

This is probably not recommended, but I found that after removing the screw from behind the little circular blanking plug next to the cigarette lighter, you could bend the panel forwards just enough to squeeze the retaining clips.
Then it would just pop out.

The way I did it is as follows.
Remove lighter. You should see a couple of metal "bars" that go almost to the bottom of the metal housing (wish I had taken photos ). Prise them inwards slightly. Using strong finger nails or 2 flat blade jewellers screwdrivers, grab the metal body lip and pull forward carefully to the full extent of the wiring on the back (should just clear the level of the fascia) you then can see the plastic, orange surround. This has 2 more tangs/clips which need prising inwards together carefully, quite a fiddle but do-able with the same jewellers. The surround should come out. You then have access to the bulb in its holder (just push in, no turn and lock in position ) and the 2 wiring connectors, if they haven't already fallen off (not a problem if they do coz they can't go far and you can reach them with your fingers).
