Red Headlamp Relay - Wtf ?

Headlights were staying up on low beams when I turned my lights off..

Felt around under the dash and found the "red" relay. Pulled it. Problem solved.

Now, I understand this is supposed to create a delay when the high beams are flashed indicating to the person being passed your.. well... passing, but I can't tell a difference in the operation of my headlights. I flashed 'em, they stayed up, for a couple seconds and went down. The relay doesn't seem to have any bearing at all on the normal operation of the low/high beams as best I can tell.

So, what the hell is the point of buying a replacement for this relay :) ?

Best I can tell there is no reason to replace this part, right ? Pull it and forget it ?

How long did you leave it before pulling the relay. Mine sometimes wait a few minutes after flashing or after turning on in the garage (to check the bulbs) or after turning on and pulling up before they go down again. Seems reasonable to me although the first time they seemed to take forever because I kept watching them (a watch kettle never boils eh?). Now I just leave them as I know they will pop down in a few minutes.

As to the main jist of the question I'm not sure, if the relay is really knackered, try opening it up, sometimes you can see a visible crack in solder connections, this can easily be reapired by remaking the solder join.

Sounds like yours is behaving like mine did!

It did previously take a little while for them to drop, strangely....

Then they stopped going down altogether.
