code 24???

Postby L.G. » Fri 16.03.2007, 08:49

Hi,

I had the engine light flashing and I got code 24 which is vehicle speed sensor. The problem is I don't know what a vehicle speed sensor is. Can you tell me what it is or where I can find it in the manual? Also if it has to be changed where can it be found? (sjs don't seem to sell one is it an isuzu part?)

Thanks,
L.G.

p.s: my speedo doesn't work is it because of this sensor thing (made a connection between them using simple english...:) )

LG the speedo is driven by a cable if it is not going around at the back of the speedo it will not drive the pick up in the speed sensor so check you have drive on the cable from the gear box to speedo

I found the page, thanks Sy.

M100 TWO,

I had that cable checked just yesterday. It seems that the cable is fine, the mechanic said it is likely to be the part in the gearbox that is broken and he had to open up the gearbox to check. The interesting thing is when you're driving at low speeds the speedo doesn't work. If you go past some higher speeds like 80 mph it starts working at any speed but it jumps and falls between the speed and naught.
I will check if it goes around the sensor or not though; don't remember that being checked, thanks for the advice.

I had this a long time ago in my white elan, turned out to be the cable was not fully home in the speedo instrument, might pay you to remove instrument cover & have a look ?
