Full on boost gauge

Oh bugger, I think I've caused this one. I'm in the process of removing and polishing/painting various brackets and the like round the engine bay.

I embarked on removing the transducer thing (I think that is what it is)mounted on the offside inner wing. It came off nice and easily considering the bracket is held on by rawlnuts (now replaced) cleaned the bracket up and put it all back together.

Turned the car on and the boost gauge goes straight to absolute maximum and stays there. It does this with just the electrics on so I assume it is something electrical rtaher thand the turbo going truly loopy. The car runs fine and when revving the turbo sounds like its spinning away as per normal. Haven't driven it yet though. The first time I started it the hose to the turbo from the dustbin was disconnected as I'd removed it to remove the electric coolant pump bracket but I noticed this straight away so tuened it all off and reconnected.

Please help me guys, what is wrong, what have I done to my car and what can I do?

Ben, if you had looked down a few threads, you would of seen Gary had this just the other day. Its the black earth wire, you either havn't connected it, or tightened it enough ?

Ah, right, I'll have a go at tightening it right up. Cheers. Fingers crossed, too late to start tinkering again now. I can't see that it is anything that I could have totally broken.

My god you guys are good. Just thought 'stuff it, it'll take 2 minutes to tighten'. Did just that and its fine again. Oh, thank god.

I'll continue my programme tomorrow. Its strange, when the Elises have done odd things like that in the past I've been angry with them, with the Elan I'm more horrified that I may have broken him. Weird.

the other difference is there are a lot of simple little fixes you can get help with here for the Elan, while you have to coax the mechanic with cold hard cash to usually fix and Elise!

Too true, there are still a lot of mysteries as far as the Elise goes and it never ceases to amaze me in Elise circles how it all manages to kick off at the slightest hint of a disagreement. I'm really relishing the relaxed friendly and knowledgeable nature of the Elan community.
