Window switch light

A long time since I last posted on the forum, but that means good news as I have not had any problems..however...

I have just recharged the battery, as winter is over, and have noticed that the led lights on the window switches are constanly on !

The windows only work with the ignition switched on, but the lights remain even when the car is locked ( with or without using the fob ) it is an S2 fitted with the standard Lotus Gemini ( gem of an alarm system )

Any help would be really appreciated

I’m the wrong person for electrical problems, but seeing as you have no reply I looked thro the manual.

You will already know - the lights are supposed to come on with the ignition just to identify the position of the switches. The window lift fuses are number 1 and 2 above the instrument cluster. Removing them probably makes no difference. I doubt it is anything to do with the alarm.

It would seem to be a short circuit, albeit a strange one, where the lights are picking up a 12v supply rather than going to earth. (Unless the ignition connects the earth to the lights?) I would have a look how they are wired, check the colour and follow it through to the ignition switch.

Played with the windows today, after a drive and a few ups and downs with the windows the problem has disappeared, Guess it was a bad grounding somewhere.

After more than 20 years of Lotus ownership, this is something I come to expect.

( I still keep the alarm system on my suspect list though !)

Checked mine, and all I can do is confirm that the lights in the switches come on with the ignition.
