Stan's Headers Full Exhaust system

Folks,

I was surfing on Bill's Isuzuperformance site (yeah, I know - get a life) and came across this page:

Stan's Headers Exhaust

It appears that Doug and Matt have had these systems somewhere along the line - just wondering if it is a decent system and worth pursuing with Stan? My cat is rattling and the PO's ricer muffler is starting to bug me.

Stan was a contact of "he who's name should not be spoken"

Stan got an Elan and made a jig from it and produced the parts from it. If you can contact Stan and he has the jigs then perhaps you can strike up a deal. Alternatively custom exhausts have become more mainstream and it's likely you could find someone near you to make a fine system to your car.

We can certainly advise on exactly what we'd recommend you look for if you specify what you are running and what your goals are.

Doug, that page mentions a downpipe and precat replacement. Any idea how the precat was done? As in, with a seperate wastegate outlet that is combined with the exhaust pipe further down the line? I'm thinking along the lines of a Fed Stiffy here...........

Don, I just had my exhaust from the cat back done a week ago and I'm very happy with the work. A good custom exhaust shop can build a nice system for you - its not that hard. The toughest part was finding a good, small body muffler to fit the space we have. I ended up going with a Dynomax muffler (interestingly enough, its a division of Wagner and if you look at the OEM muffler on the Elan, it too is a Wagner), a Magnaflow resonator just after the cat and a Magnaflow cat, all in 2 1/4. He grafted the 2 1/4 piping to the downpipe which I expect to replace one day anyway with a precat/downpipe eliminator/flexpipe combo.

This setup sounds very nice with a slightly louder than OEM sound level but definitely a lower tone. Installed, it cost me $950 CDN.

I called Stan last year and he no longer has the blue prints and has no samples to follow, all that information was returned to *he who's name should not be spoken* . Stan could make more if he had a blue print or a car to follow but he told me I could get the same work done closer to home.

Stan's didn't use the correct dimension muffler anyway. It used a 4"x10" which therefore could only be 14" long or the suspension travel would poke a hole right through it. The correct muffler is 5.25"x8"x17" long. This fits into the plastic moulded "muffler-well" without touching the sides of it.

It would be nice if Stan could reproduce the pre-cat eliminator though... not just for us but for the Isuzu-Zone guys as well. If you've Stan's phone # please pass it along to me as I can ship him one to use as a model, AS LONG AS HE RETURNS IT!!!!!

I know this thread is very old but I just found it. I have a stans exhaust. In fact my car was the one he used to make his M100 exhaust prototype. The link supplied below is correct. It's a great system. When I had it installed I was amazed how well it worked. I pulled out of Stans parking lot and and floored the gas. The engine revved so much more quickly than I was used to that I bounced off the rev limiter before I could get my foot off the gas . Someone posted that he didn't use the right muffler. The muffler he used works just fine and sounds great without being to loud. The fit and finish of the system is first rate. In fact he seemed quite proud of the work he did on my car. There seems to be some intrest in PCE's. If people are intrested in his pre cat eliminator I could drop by his shop and have him take measurements off of mine. I work only 5 miles from his shop so it isn't that much trouble for me.

You've made an awesome post for at least four reasons...

Your Elan being the one used to make Stan's M100 exhaust prototype puts you/your Elan solidly in LEC's historical thread lineage.
Offering to drop by his shop for PCE measurements is a generous offer for those wanting a PCE.
I'm not sure but I think you're probably in the running for longest posting gap thread resurrection.
I think you must be at the top for longest time from joining date to first post.

LOL.... I have posted here a few times, but that was long ago. Those posts seem to have gone away somewhere.....In fact I posted about the stans exhaust system right after it was installed on my car. I parked the car a few years ago. The milage was low (26000) and I considered that the car might have some real collecter value after a time. That hasn't happened so now I'm going to keep it and just drive it. It's been in a nice warm garage all this time and is in fantastic shape. I did screw up and let it sit long without starting it. All 4 injecters froze up along with the fuel pump. and I had to replace them all . Other than the stans exhaust the car is stock at presant but top end, everest chips, and other vendors will soon be getting orders from me.

By downpipe do you mean the precat? My exhaust system starts at the precat. I believe the downpipe is before the precat, mine is stock. Also I have no elanscan data at all. I have my old precat, Stan could use that for a jig to make the part from. I suggest that you call Stan (link provided elswhere in this thread) and ask about pricing. I don't want anybody's money. Everything in that regard should be done by Stans. My offer is just to drop off my old precat so he can make the part off of it. Sorry for any confusion.

I just visited the Piper downpipe thread. My PCE is just the lower 1/2 of the downpipe assembly shown in the pictures.
