Piper 2.5 Exhaust - How many DB's

Postby abmunro » Thu 14.07.2016, 09:54

I was wondering if anyone has had their exhaust noise measured

I have the 2.5" Piper exhaust.

Not 'measured' as such, but my Piper 2 1/4" with single silencer has always passed noise testing at Castle Combe, Llandow and other tracks (both when brand new, and all the time since).

I know that this isn't 'real world' noise as such, but it wasn't even close to the limits (which other cars failed).

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

I have the 2.5

I've not measured it though.

Here a separate question though, do you get automatic fuel cut off with over boost?

I do, and the waste gate is ported to the max size, it makes the car chuffing dangerous to drive fast and hard.

Decided to buy one of these as they are so cheap. Maplins.

They are on offer as they are now discontinued.

I'm hoping my new DB meter is not very good.

It's showing my car is 112.3 DBc @ 5500 revs 45 degrees and 50cm distance.

Bollocks :( :( :( :(

They are discontinued?
What price did you pay if you don't mind me asking?
(their website show the regular price if I am not wrong)

Like Dave I also have the Piper 2.25 so not really relevant. Its also got a PCE and Sports Cat. Measured this year by the chaps at Castle Combe at just 93db at 4k rpm - which was surprisingly low. Much lower than the 97 to 98 that they measure on the standard Esprit pipes. But its plenty loud enough for me so I'm happy!

I think I have the 2.5 and it regularly shows 94 at 4500 but on a couple of occasions (?) it recorded 104
