Well the pre-cat is going, either bored out, or if possible replaced in s/steel. I'm not sure yet it all comes down to time/cost. As for a main cat, well i'll have to sort that out when MOT time comes round!

Well i finally got the s/s exhaust sorted today. I have no pictures as yet but will try to get some when i take the car to Chris foulds. The system is 2.25 in diameter with an oval end like stock and just a bit louder than normal only a bit deeper in sound. The only thing that bothers me is a loud whistle when on boost. I think i've seen this mentioned before on the site. How come when the back-box fell off it never made this sound? Cheers Holty<br>

I'll try my best monty<br><br>1. I did'nt get the pre-cat done. He did'nt seem too keen and he did'nt want to even hollow it out. I think if you get the pre-cat done in s/s that figure of £425.00 will change quite a bit, i mean it took all day( 8.45a.m-5.00p.m) to sort mine out.<br><br>2. Final cost was £425.00 with yer lifetime guarantee.<br><br>3. Only got a limited run on the motorway then a short blast home but the car seemed to come on boost a lot faster, and seemed to hit  Alans ( ElanScanMans) target quicker.<br><br>4. Service was o.k nothing great. They do'nt seem to ask many questions about what you want, so make sure you tell them exactly what you require.<br><br>Hope that bit helps Holty<br><br>

Bloody hell, they (Ian) quoted me £425 with the pre-cat replaced included. Just hope they don`t go back on that :-/<br><br>What happened about the main-cat?

Have had mine fitted now too. 2.25" pre cat back, like Holty my guy was reluctant to do the pre cat replacement, he said it has supports for the tubo too ? we discussed hollowing it and putting a high flow cat in but he reckoned i was wasting my money. Came to £350 all in and i'm really not sure about it.<br><br>First it seems loud to me although others like it and dont think it's too loud just sporty. Then my biggest worry/concearn/disappointment is it is no quicker, my car was standard S2 so i was expecting it to be a little better with the loss of the main cat too but doesn't feel it, maybe smoother delivery....maybe. The other worry is the fun gauge is defiantly not reading higher, in fact i'm sure it's a bit lower ? Quite fed up in truth  :(

Quite fed up in truth  :([/quote]<br>Steve,<br>1. unbolt new exhaust at pre-cat<br>2. get long screwdriver and the like type devices and pound them into the matrix of the pre-cat to break it apart<br>3.  get all the pre-cat material out slowly with persistence.<br>4. start car here and there to help blow the junk out as you clean it out<br>5. bolt exhaust on and notice a difference   ;D

Wear gogles or do WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO not to get any of that stuff in your eyes.  If that stuff gets in there it will cut them just like dropping tiny shards of glass in!  Please be careful.

well, if you just hollow it out then it would certainly pass visual inspection (though it may not matter for you).  <br><br>my car has passed the strict Cailfornia emissions test for the last 6 years with no pre-cat, if that helps you.<br><br>the pre-cat is for cold-start emissions, so unless they do a cold-start, all you have to do is run the car a bit and be sure the main cat is warm before testing.  I do recall someone posting recently that their S2 with no cats passed the MOT.<br><br>

Doug, theres no visual inspection just has to pass emmisions.<br><br>I have no main cat anymore hence the problem, it is a slim chance it would pass without any but very slim.<br><br>Any ideas ? too be honest it's all beginning to annoy me now.

Monty the plan was to have a system with either the pre-cat hollowed or replaced in s/s and have the original main-cat being bolt-in and outable (is that a word?). However when it all came down to it i found out the original main-cat is already hollowed out so thats gone! Holty

Holty, might have a solution for you, you can easily enough hollow out the precat but your problem is now you have no main cat to fit for mots. I have my main cat in the garage just taken off, it had a vibration at around 4k rpm which drove me nuts and led me to change the exhaust system but unlike you i dont want the hassle of fitting it and removing it for mots so i wont use it but may be a solution for you ?
