Hi,

Give PNM a call regarding this. There is a very small number that have been made to a different specification than they should have been without PNM's knowledge. Most systems are fine but if you have the issue, give Pete a call and he will explain the options.

Hi Toby - how you getting on with your new exhaust? Iv'e had my PNM with the extra box (the quiet version) for a couple of months now and i feel I've made a big mistake. I'm slowly grinding it down to scrap. I'm grounding it so often on the country roads where I live that sooner or later its just gonna get a holed or split.. or come off completely. I try to take care but it has just taken all the fun out of driving the car. It's also so close to the underside that it knocks all the time. I've taken it in twice to various exhaust centres to have it re-seated, and even put some exhaust vibration mat roll on the first box, but it got ripped off after a couple of weeks. Yep - its increased boost and sounds great, but its becoming really annoying now. Not sure what i'll do when the thing finally gets holed. M.

I did. I spoke to Pete when I went back to collect my old stainless steel exhaust he took off when he put the PNM one on. He confirmed they are lower and suggested trying to knock in the areas where the exhaust is touching the frame with a rubber mallet. I didn't press the issue. I was down at South West Lotus last week with a window problem and James (one of the sons - great guy, really helpful) showed me his sports exhaust on his M100. It wasn't low at all even though there was a middle box on it.. but I can't recall the manufacture... maybe Piper. Anyway, I feel I've been sold a pup. my bad! M

Good news. Pete from PNM has been in touch and explained that the company that makes them to the spec has made some mistakes in a couple of recent ones.... mine was one of them. he wants me to bring it back and it will be replaced. Apparently, an error as much as 2 inches has been made. Makes sense. Good result from Pete! M

This is a pic of the problem part. This is what the second silencer should look like; just a little bigger than the diameter of the main pipe. The ones that have been produced in error have a much larger diameter and consequently the whole exhaust has to sit lower and would undoubtedly catch on everything. When I was in PNM last week Pete was contacting those he thought may have been affected by the design change which in fairness to him he knew nothing about as they are shipped directly from the manufacturer. I can't straddle the speed bumps with the exhaust but then I couldn't with the old one anyway. Other than that I've never had a problem with it and it sounds great.

I have to say I'm a little confused over this one.

I have a Cybox/Peco exhaust which came with the car. I wasn't happy with the droning noise it made so contacted Cybox and they sent me the retro fit silencer section. The thing is I and I believe others here fitted it behind the back box just above the wishbone, not under the middle of the car as per your picture.

See this post for reference pictures I took at the time. It might be worth checking to see if your is fitted correctly.

I wouldn't worry as Cybox/PNM were experimenting with the position of the second silencer. My complete system was fitted by Cybox and there have been several positions for the second silencer over the past few years. Whilst I don't have a clearance problem I think they have gone for your position behind the main box as the preferred position.
