Exhaust possible problem

When I first got my Elan I had a rattly back box (before you all say it, yes the doctor helped me with it)

So, I had a new S\S fitted by a local cowboy that I bought from a dealer.

Now, eversince, the car has had considerably less power and I think it's due to the over flattening of the pipe as it goes over the cross member!
As the ones fron Cris Neil's do not fit without bashing them.

Does this make sense?

OK, so what's the best replacement going to be....bearing in mind I am not so sure if I want it really noisy..just a nice grunt maybe

Maybe just a little too loud for you, but then most aftermarket one are louder than stock
