Failed MOT on rear Back box blowing.

Postby elan_man » Mon 10.03.2008, 16:14

Hey all, my little baby has been in for her MOT today and they have failed it on the rear back box blowing.

Now I have rang up my local dealer for an new back box and they have said it will be either £197 + vat or 150 + vat depending on if it is a newer model or the older model.

Just wondering if it would be cheaper to get a custom back box fitted, get one from the dealer or if anybody knows if there is anywhere to get a replica back box.

I hope also that I get it sorted soon because I don't want to miss Donny this year, I would just cry.

Now where did I leave the car keys?

I don't know of an aftermarket back box but full stainless systems are available for a tad over £300 from Peco (as you probably already know). If you opt for the Lotus one it will be mild steel (I imagine) and could rot through again very soon, Some seem to last years whilst I've also had them last less than 18 months!
If your going to keep your Elan then go for stainless.
Oh, and a custom made box could cost you around the figures you mentioned.

don't forget the peco is a complete system for £300 and 2.25" rather than 2" std lifetime guarantee (custom made shud Be about £300 too for a complete system so why pay £200 +vat for something without a lifetime guarantee that will need replacing again at some point) :-D

I'd recommend the stainless 'sports' one from SJ Sportscars

£114 + vat

I have an S2 back box fitted... Lotus Aftersales had them reduced...
