NEWBIE LOOKING AT UPGRADING EXHAUST!

Hi all,

I've had my S2 since Oct last year and have had a great time with it, even with the less than inspiring summer! I followed one of the other threads on here talking about a new exhaust being designed by Piper, which should be similar to the Peco exhausts and am interested in an upgrade. Points to note:

1. Lakeside have told me that my cat and pre-cat have fallen out of my exhaust, and therefore need replacing before my next MOT, Oct 08.
2. Lakeside have also told me that the turbo has been upgraded. When I asked them to be more specific they weren't! I suggested either BBR or Everest Chip and all I got was ' something like that.' Not really useful.
3. I understand automechanics about as well as I understand women!

So my questions are:

A. With a requirement to replace my cat and pre-cat, I am thinking of replacing the whole exhaust system to upgrade it. What sort of performance would I see from either the Peco or Piper designs(I realise this is still being designed and not yet tested)?

B. Without knowing exactly what my upgraded turbo uses, how would the performance be effected with such an exhaust upgrade? Would a Everest/BBR chip be compatible with such an upgrade?

I suppose I really need someone who knows their way around an S2, AND is helpful, to look at mine, and give me a steer in the right direction! Anybody in the Salisbury area????

I have a 2.5" s/s exhaust with only the pre-cat in place and it has now passed 2 MOT's.

You should only need one or the other, but in Geoff's case none, as his passed without either.

Piper are doing a 2.5" with a sports cat if I recall, thats what I would go for.

I don't think the pre-cat can 'fall out.' If it did foul up then it would foul your whole exhaust. If and when you go to put on a new system, you (the mechanic that is) will unbolt the downpipe from the pre-cat and it will be obvious if the cat cells are in place or boken up or gone. I'm sure others will here be with proper advice soon. If you can get the Hethel next month for the Lotus bash, you'd be able to see and learn more about Elans than you'd want. If not maybe there's a local meeting near you on occasion. I know Jim/Muley don't live too far from London and he's plenty knowledgeable 'bout Elans.

Correct. It has been passing for a number of years and another one is due on Monday.
