the forum ive just been on showed it being done by using a solid gaskit. on the manifold. removal of this gaskit returns car to std

Probably remove the connection to the EGR actuator and/or block off the pipe.

My question is WHY? EGR reduces mid-range emissions but isn't normally used at tickover or under power so removal will not give you any benefits (unless you hate polar bears ) and will probably throw CEL errors and cause you to fail the MoT. You want to watch those Corsa forums addict!

Out of interest I had a faulty EGR valve on my son’s VW Polo ... the emissions where lower on the MOT with it not working - compared to the previous year when it was!

The downside was, you were running with a permanently lit engine warning light.

The fault on ours coincided with inadvertently leaving the EGR vacuum pipe off for a few days ... I concluded a good way to knacker one up is to stop it working for a while ... it will probably never start again.

I've vremoved the EGR on my Vx220 to reduce weight and to allow more room for my supercharger conversion. No problems with the running of the car and passes the MOT. I have wired in a bit of circuitry which cheats the EML and does not throw up any error codes.

Mine was 100% clogged when I got the car, no CE light.. So I unplugged
the valve to it, still no CE lights..

Where was the clog? I nearly failed my last smog test on NOx levels; I'm told this is what EGR addresses, so I need to check in the next few months.

Mine was clogged in the intake manifold. I took the valve off and it was a solid wall of carbon.
It was so bad there wasn't even a vacuum leak when I took the valve off.

From what I understand the EGR lowers temps in the combustion chamber and this lowers NOX.

I'm a bit late to the party here but mine has been removed and blanked off.

EGR recycles the exhaust gas (hence the name) back into the intake to reduce emissions and also reduces Oxygen levels in the engine prior to combustion. Oxygen levels are a good thing for performance.

Ah, but it doesn't operate when you put your foot down, so when you're asking for acceleration it doesn't do any harm. Just reduces emissions (and apparently improves fuel economy slightly) when you're cruising at low throttle.

However, it does add unnecessary plumbing and weight, and an extra source of leaks. If I had a track Elan I'd definitely remove the EGR stuff. I've considered doing it on my road car just because it would free up more elbow space in there. Any good it does is fairly minimal anyway.
