Exhaust - backbone clearence

I've got an issue with I suspect with the rear hanger on the centre section of my exhaust... it's taking too much of the weight, and seems to be the cause of the centre section hitting the chassis..

The next hanger (front hanger on backbox) seems to be taking no weight at all...

Can some kind soul give me a measurment reference for the rear backbone hanger - ideally relative to the bottom of the chassis;

I hoped you would be able to read it from the tape Gordon but the camera angle is wrong and I have the wrong clothes on to get any nearer … the measurement between your two red lines on mine is 1.25” and the lower edge of the semicircular metal end of the hanger is 0.75” below the chassis.

I just photographed a couple of my chassis.. no need to post now.

Two quick questions,

Is it an OEM exhaust?

Is it the correct hanger/rubber mount?

The downpipe and centre section are SJ Sportscars Stainless (their OEM copy), going into an OEM Steel backbox...

I suspect you've hit the nail on the head with the rubber hanger - it may be a shade short - I'm only looking to gain about 15~20 mm, so I'll possibly just try a longer figure 8 donut hanger instead...

You’re probably right about the rubber being different … mine has the normal steel exhaust and most likely the original mount.

Another observation … the exhaust is running parallel to the chassis and half an inch away from it.

It looks to me like your middle and back sections are not slotted together enough. That would bring the box back and the exhaust bracket should sit under the chassis bracket.

Be careful with clearance. I had a minor fire due to the cat setting some insulation on fire. It melted some of the plastic hoses running along the backbone. The car will be back to me as soon as I can arrange to pick it up next week.

That's a little scary since the plastic hoses on the backbone are fuel lines! Glad there was no major damage.
