Fitting my NEW PIPER 2.25 -help required

Right I now have my new Piper 2.25 exhaust system with pre cat, I just have a few questions before I attempt to fit! It came with a kit which included the rubbers, 3 round and one longer one, gasket to join to pre cat, 1 standard exhaust clamp and a banded one... which one goes on which joint???? The kit also contained a round metal ring where on earth do I fit that!

Hope someone can advice the novice again, although I may well take it to local garage if after advice it sounds too hard.... I assume it is just a case of removing old exhuast and then starting at the precat and attaching the short pipe with flexible part, then bolt on sports cat etc. Does anyone have any pics of one fitted that might help me decide.. Do I need to remove the grey plate that has the do not jack signs?

It's been a while since I fitted mine, and it was pretty straightforward.. the hardest part was getting the old one off, and fitting the rear hanger, but if I can manage it then it should be within anyone's grasp.

As for the positioning of the bracket, did you not get a instruction sheet with the exhaust? IIRC there is a U clamp on the standard exhaust, the new one should go in the same place..... I can stick my head under theend and check though.

Fitting is pretty straightforward, no need to remove anything other than the exhust I don't think the exhaust bits will come over the chassis parts if you twist them as you remove/fit... start at the front, I had a custom precat replacement, but I can't see how fitting can be any different, the ring is, if I remember correctly supposed to go between the pre-cat and front part of the exhaust (at the triangular joint), check with piper though if you are not sure.

The rear hanger rubber was a bitch, and I think I might have left the old one there... the rest just needed a bit if leverage to stretch them.
Good luck with fitting, and remember, if the exhaust is off you can always drive it to a garage for help (unlike the brakes which has happened to me lately)

But if you reach into the boot and undo the bracket which it attaches to, you can fit it to the hanger, then put a jack under the rear box to lift it into position - replace the bolts (loosely), then re-position the whole set-up with wheels on the ground (and give it all a good shake to settle it in) - then do up the bolts when you're happy with the tail pipe position.

Other than that, with above stuff!

As an extra tip, it is hell of a lot easier to do with good clearance underneath - ideally over a pit, or on a lift - i did mine on axle stands, and wished (half way through) that i'd bothered to clear the ramps and get it up higher!!!!

Sorry one last question do i fit 'dry' or use exhaust paste on the joints. The one fitted at the moment some numpty seems to have used silicone, obviously this is wrong! But having said that it appears to have worked.

Where its an interference fit sleeved joint (one bit sliding inside the other) with a u-bolt clamp then dry. Where its a clamp joint (two flaired surfaces to be tightened together around a separate doughnut) I tend to smear some paste on the doughnut before clamping because the mating surfaces are never perfect but they will seal with a smudge of gungum on them. All the back end are sleeves (dry) but I cant remember what the connection to the downpipe is - think its a doughnut...?
