Whacked my exhaust !!

After a cruise around the Peak District I whacked my exhaust a couple of times on some very bumpy roads. Its flattened the front section as it comes down a bit. Also hit the sump - looks like I was lucky not to have done more damage.

Would this restrict performance ? Can't notice anything I have to say, I'm sure there are other cars out there with slightly squashed pipes ?!

I have no oil leaks so is it ok to leave the sump ?

And whats the braided covered bit ? Is that a pre-cat ?

The braided part is the flex section
As long as you don't have a leak in this section, I see no reason not to continue using this exhaust section.

What could be worrying (from my own experience unfortunately):
When you hit the bump, all cast iron parts upstream could be damaged! : Pre-cat housing, downpipe, and exhaust manifold!

So check for any evidence of sooth...

All pretty normal. After a while you can spot the dips that are going to cause the imminent scrape.

As H2J says this is probably why all of the turbo exhaust manifolds I have seen are cracked.

behind the front heatshield - The one with slots in it.

If you have an S2, it should have a Cat as well as a pre-cat.

The main cat is attached to the pipe - the flange in the picture has it at the other end of the pipe, it will be behind the prongeron.

It looks like you have a Piper system which came with or without a cat or even an extra silencer.

Whilst looking at my exhaust to try and help Simon in his latest thread I discover this!
After reading here, I guess it’s ok?

(I must say my sump is horrendously dented - far worse than Simon’s! No leaks though and I don’t think it’s recent damage.)

Thank you for looking !! Mine looks worse than that and there were no leaks/damage afterwards. I think a few must look like that !!

there's already a fairly flattened section as the exhaust passes over the prongeron.
