UK car tax carbon emissions

Anyone know if theres a way to get your elan placed into the uk car tax band based on actual CO emissions instead of engine size?

When ever I get it MOT'd its always virtualy 0.0 carbon monoxide so it would be nice to take advantage of the new £50 minimum car tax.

Firstly, I think it is the CO2 emission banding that the road tax is based on...

Secondly it is based on when your car was built, so the emissions will only apply to far more modern cars than any Elan.

I think the only way you can get free or cheaper road tax on an Elan is to turn it into an electric vehicle or steam powered (and no, blowing head gaskets do not count as steam power!) or buy a pre 1973 Elan...

wahoo....old elans......
thats why I got them too....no tax and the insurance cost £90 a year!!!....
and they dont come under the emissions test.....so it doesnt matter howmuch smoke you put out they wave it through!!!!
