Full Exhaust Quote/ Possible Group Buy

My S2 just passed it's MOT and while on the ramps we managed to track down the noises to the main cat degrading and also the rear box is very very corroded. So finally i HAVE to get a new exhaust  :)<br><br>I have found a company in Ashford, Kent who are a specialist outfit albeit small, went there today for them to have a proper look and discuss things.<br><br>I have been quoted for a complete 2.5" stainless system mandrel bent 304 grade steel, this is to replace from the precat back as in no more precat housing left at all. There would be a coned precat replacement built with a flexable coupling intergrated, he says there should be no problem getting over the cross member as i explained the squish issues. I will also be having a 200 cell high flow cat in the original main cat position. There will be one rear silencer with a choice of pipe ( he showed me too very nice ones similar to stock but slightly bigger ) and he said the sound would be slightly deeper but not massivly louder which is what i want anyway. All this will cost £850-900 plus vat  :( which i guess is ok all things considered ?<br><br>I spoke to him about LEC and any bulk discounts etc, he does this a lot and has recently done a run of 17 for a Caterham club. He said that for an order of 5 would easily be a discount of £100 per system without even working it out so theres a fair chance of some good deals. For SE owners referance the cat costs £260 plus vat alone so a full system for you guys would be approx £600 plus vat pre discounts. The main man is very very friendly and has no problems answering questions etc by phone or the email info@powerspeed.co.uk<br><br>I want to get mine done asap as there is a couple of week waiting time as it is so if anyones interested please let me know sooner rather than later and we can see what kind of deals can be done.<br><br>Company is Powerspeed Auto Ltd and there website is http://www.powerspeed.co.uk/index.html although he said it is a very old site but all the contact stuff is up to date.

Might be interested, but the price is quite steep, i know of 1 company, possibly 2, who will make a full system to your spec for £400 + vat, so if the final price comes in at around £500, then i would be interested !

The lack of responses means i guess a lot of people think it's expensive but it's not really for what you get. Paul matty's system is £400 plus vat and thats not 2.5", has no precat replacement and on many installs isn't straight either. Spose it's horses for courses really, i'm sure Mr M Mouse ltd can do it cheaper but the horror stories i've heard  :(<br><br>Monty the prices quoted are inc fitting so if you cant make it for fitting there may be some saving there also. For an SE i think £500 is more than possable with 5 or more orders.<br><br>Paul P who is this company or companys you mention ? and are they real quotes or phone estimates ?

I would say that if you breakdown the price you quoted Avonvilla (without any negotiating) it sounds like a reasonable grounding for a bit of group buying barter...<br><br>Put it this way, if i've read the thread correctly you are essentailly getting:<br><br>- Full 2.5" exhuast system (avg seems to be £400)<br>- Pre-cat Eliminator (Bills @ £180 but no longer around?)<br>- High flow C.A.T (£250?...)<br>- Choice of tailpipe...<br>- Fully fitted<br><br>For £850.... which in essence ain't too bad for one person IF it is a "proper job" (If you watched scrap heap challenge you know what i mean)<br><br>With a bit of persuading and with a group buy you could end up with a good deal.<br><br>I would put myself on the list today but I believe i have some gear box bearing problems (whirring underload from center) which will eat into that fund! I'll see how business goes and if I can pay myself some more next month  ;)<br><br>Living in Kent is a location bonus for me seeing as every other project is over the other side of the country! <br><br>Timmay

Avonvilla (don`t know u`r 1st name :-/)<br><br>Give it time, u only posted last nite i`m sure u might get a couple of others interested, u`ve got Me, Dico and Paul.P as possibles  ;D Just wish i could get Pinky II down that area to get it fitted  ::)<br><br>There are peeps who have had 21/4 including fitting for around £400 but that didn`t include the replacement of the precat.<br><br>

Oh and I speak from having experienced a £250 powerflow exhaust job - 2.5" SS exhaust fitted by a load of monkeys ( Basically a piece of pipe from precat back with a load of bloody squishes all over....  grrrrrr) but thats another story.

Timmay you read it exactly right yep, dont watch scrap heap challenge so i have no idea what you mean  ???  :)<br><br>Monty it's not either name ! lol it's Steve ! i've read so much on exhausts on lec and the systems that seem to be comparable are the haywood and scott full system at roughly the same price and Elanmans scottish jobbie but thats a million miles away and no option for a postal option. Remember too this is 2.5" all the way when comparing and he was confident of no squishes.<br><br>I spoke with Timmay about his powerflow before going to see Powerspeed, i'd heard bad things about them before too on other cars including a mate who had a BMW Z1, seems to be a reason why there are cheaper companies ie they suck !<br><br>One thing i maybe didn't make clear in the original post was they are willing to discuss any individual options or just maybe the precat elimator or whatever, if we can get a list going of what everyone/anyone wants then we can see what they are willing to do and go from there.

How much for just the pre-cat CONE piece, not fitted, NO-VAT shipped to the USA as slowly-and-cheaply as possible?   I would explain to him there is a permanent market for this one piece as no one else offers it or is willing to make it.  Other people will buy this piece from him to have it fitted along with the rest of their "made-on-their-car" system, for ever & ever, as long as Elans rust in England!  BTW I would not want any heat-shielding on this piece as I would just have it JET-HOT coated here in da USA.

Nitroman, he said around £100 but he hasn't taken it off and seen it yet so i'm skeptical of that price, he did say that he could build a jig if there was enough intersest and i think your right in saying this piece could be worth it.<br><br>Dico, not 100% sure i'll check but i was thinking he meant it would be on the pre cat bit. As for manufacturing he will have my car for at least 2 days in which time he could make several of any parts needed for a group buy and maybe built a jig for future ones but i doubt he will unless there was serous demand so it may be a one off unless someone can go with a car again. I suppose in reality i dont have to get it done yesterday as my car passed the mot and i can live with the annoying rattle for a bit longer so i'll say end of next weekend to show an interest and state whats required then if there are any takers i'll speak to him and see what can be done.
