Bottom Ball Joint

Postby Quanta » Sun 17.03.2013, 20:04

I've got a 1991 Fed Elan. I've just been shown that my bottom ball joint bolt will not tighten and needs replacing. I cannot find any GM part cross reference for this ball joint. Is there any cross reference to any other ball joint as I cannot find a source for the lower ball joint anywhere. I'm also needing to find a source for the lower raft bushings as well. Can't find any trace of them either. Any leads besides Dave Bean would be appreciated... Thanks!

Most of the front suspension parts are unique to the M100. There are few pieces that have interchanges.

All of those parts are readily available from Lotus UK. The ball joints are currently on the Aftersales Discount list.

Look here for the list. I can refer you to a dealer in the UK that can order the parts and ship them to you.

http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/index.php?mod=10 and

check to see if the rear bush is different to the front or the same - the item ref: SJS is for the later larger rear bush - they also stock the earlier version which is common to the front mount
I recently bought lower ball joints from the after sales parts list - - recommend you make a matching tapered face bush to get the new one in - whats needed is obvious when it's on the bench - made the job easy

The Federal car uses the larger spec S2 bushing.
