inner driveshaft boot

Postby hodge » Thu 08.08.2013, 17:12

does anyone know of a current reference or cross reference for a - inner driveshaft boot (off side)?

I can find Wiki reference to the outer but not the inner.

Has anyone in uk had success with the stretchy type which doesn't require the joint to be split? ie are they close fitting enough to allow full range of movement without chewing themselves up on whatever is available nearby?

We have been told it is the same as that used on a Subaru Wagon. Best to take it with you to compare when you go looking.

Thanks John, I appreciate the quick response. though I'm not quite sure what it would translate to in the uk, if at all - there have been many subarus for at least 3/4 decades ranging from 4 wheel pickups to sedate estates and much more sporty 4 wheelers all of which may loosely qualify as ' wagons ' in subaru speak. I'll check it out tho :)

In the meantime - has anyone in the uk had success with a vauxhall, VW, or Renault part ?

The Lotus kit part number is A100R6005S and is still available for 14.75 from ANY UK Lotus dealer. I believe it comes with grease and sealing rings.

I bought a kit from Europarts when mine let go and splattered grease all over the shop. I had a new driveshaft ready to go in but bought the kit as back up in case the old shaft decided to stay put as I needed the car next day.
In the event it came out no problem so I have yet to try them, another job I keep putting off
The kit Ref is 656770900, comes with a cone, some lubricant, 8 boots of various sizes + grease, all for £30 +VAT if you ask nicely

Used a split boot to fix an outer joint for my MOT last week, was pretty easy to do, think it was about £20 for the kit

The inner gaiter is a bog standard GKN Tripode joint rubber one. made in the millions available from anywhere that sells them - you shouldn't need a x-ref even the Saturday boy should be able to put their hand on it. The genuine outer boot is a bit special to the application, not least because it is rubber, but any old plastic one will do if you are not fussy - loads that fit.
