hello all, broke my own rule yesterday by taking the elan out on a job ( normally only drive it when i don't need to be anywhere) without noticing that police scotland had closed the main road to the west coast.
after an hour of 2mph the fans coming on/ bringing temp down there was a lurch, managed to catch it before a stall, engine light came on, then wouldn't rev past 3 in gear, managed to get up a big hill in helensburgh on idle in 4th gear & then nursed car to loch lomond,
and then back home avoiding motorway.
just started it up after checking plugs/ hoses/air/water & oil it started 1st go but revved to 3000, blip on throttle brought it back to 2 but then rose to 3 again
its 90 NA and was running like a sewing machine on friday.
any thoughts ? it needs to go for mot at end of month but as sodding usual looks like it'll be parked up on the drive while summers arrived for a week.
appreciate any help/ guidance
Graeme

long shot BUT
take intake hose out and check throtle butterfly. check if it closes completely.
theres the air iddle screw which may (unlikely) move a bit loose with the heat cycles.
thats a start with a couple of easy checks until the big guns take a look at this post
