Hi Folks,

Thanks for the heads up in regard to the PC errors that I thought were an issue, but I gather now that they those weren't detrimental to my scanning results.

That's good then and thanks for the confirmation. Yesterday was my first opportunity since my last attempt but I run a proper scan - please see the attached file, captured on my driveway yesterday morning. I ran the car for 20 min's at idle.

My fault is odd - sometimes the car splutters from outset, other times it splutters after warming up; ultimately, ever since this general running issue has occurred there is also suddenly a notable tapping noise coming from the engine on an intermittent basis. Odd that the tapping noise has suddenly occurred - could it be related in any way?

Would those in the know be good enough to take a look at my most recent scan attached and also advise me of a way forward in order for me to resolve this issue please?

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Graham.

Hi Graham,

Perhaps an odd question, but is your base timing set correctly? ( as per WIKI)

Graham,

It doesn't appear that you have fixed your CAS fault.

Hi all.

This is a thread from the dead owing to other commitments at the time a(long story)...

I am now very much looking forward to having this car on the road for the spring!

At long last I have finally had the opportunity to fit my new HES (the new design Genuine Lotus article part number A100E0102S). I was lucky enough to be able to fit the HES without removing the CAS therefore perhaps I do not have to set the timing since the CAS has not been moved in any way?

The fault code has also been reset since replacing the HES and I run a new scan after resetting the fault code (scan result is attached).

That said, on firing the car up after resetting the fault code, I immediately noticed that the running issue has improved since fitting the new design sensor but the engine still runs lumpy at all revs. If need be, I will arrange for timing to be looked at; however in advance could I please trouble you to take a look at my scan results in order to clarify if there is anything else aside from timing could be causing the issue please?

Thanks and hope to hear from some of you.

Graham.

I had to ask a computer man for my Windows 7 installation because the trouble is the speed data exchange between the car/Elanscan and the recent computer.
The trouble is to find where this com port speed parameter setting is, il dépends on the laptop make !

For this kind of engine trouble , i would first check the condition of the CAS (sensor AND mechanical coupling) , and the sparkplugs wires but i am not an expert.

Thank you both for your replies.

Ideally I would like my scan results reviewed in advance of considering the installation of additional parts. Is there anybody on here that might me able to review my latest Elanscan results that I posted above please?

Thanks,

Graham.

Graham,

Although your O2 sensor output (CO potentiometer/Oxygen sensor) looks reasonably OK as it is swinging between >4V and <0.5V, your engine is not running closed loop (Flag 42 b0 never goes high). This probably explains the lumpy running but other than replacing the O2 sensor, I'm not sure what to suggest.

Thanks for taking a look at the scan Geoff - much appreciated. I initially hoped my running issues were entirely down to the 02 sensor (had one fail a few years back on this car); however it was fitted with a further replacement days before I commenced this thread and the replacement didn't appear to rectify things.

Is it safe to say that Elanscan isn't pinpointing the issue, or alternatively is it possible that it could be the timing. I assume timing is correct as I managed to fit the HES without removing the CAS - not being lazy here ...... The fixing bolt to the CAS is very stubborn therefore I didn't want to risk agressive force to remove it in case if causes me an additional problem.

Car is booked into a dealer for 2 weeks time in order to investigate in the near future out of desperation but i am dreading the open ended repair bill and I would of course very much like to avoid a horribly large repair bill if I can fix it in advance of the visit.

Hi,

Quick update - the dealer diagnosed my car and they inform me that injector four is faulty. Since they were unable to source new injectors in order to rectify I took the car away and plan to fit new injectors myself once I source replacements.

Are there any good suppliers to approach in the UK or alternatively the USA and are there any alternative injectors that would be suitable.

Rock Auto: ULTRAPOWER 4MFI559

One at a time they are $33.79 (£20.02) each. In packs of 4 they are $28.79 (£17.06) each They only have 16 "4 packs" left.

Thanks for your reply John.

Those Rock Auto supplied Ultrapower 4MF1559 look like very good value for money, especially when compared to the cost of RC Injectors. I have used Rock in the past and their level of service is impressive.

Do you have any direct knowledge of the Ultrapower 4MF1559 injectors being used in an Elan M100 s2 Turbo? Will they definitely be suitable for the Turbo model.

If any other readers here have any experience with Rock Auto supplied Elan M100 s2 injectors then I would appreciate your feedback also.

Thanks in advance.

Graham.

Remember, the S2 is the same engine supplied by Isuzu (GM partner) for the US Fed model.

I called the current supplier and spoke with their technical director and he assurred me they are the exact original injectors. They are being manufacturered by TRW (a regular OEM supplier to GM) and the specifications he provided are spot on.

I have a set sitting on the shelf waiting for the day I need to replace my current injectors.

The price for the NEW injectors is actually lower than even getting RC to clean and verify your existing injectors - when you factor in the cost to send yours to RC for their service.

You should buy a set before they are grabbed up by the Isuzu crowd.

David,

Did you ever make any further progress with this? If you wish to borrow, try, and potentially buy a known good set of 4 injectors, you are welcome to drop me a PM.
