Already checked there but it doesn't reference any appropriate legislation.

Feel free to ignore it then.
But you'll get no sympathy from here if you get nicked for overweight towing.

Tow weight shall only be just over 300kg. Custom trailer and lightweight toy.
Knew it was a minefield, same with my Smart car!
Thanks for all the input. Swaying more towards Smart tow...
Men are like a fine wine.
They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the sh * t out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

FaecesByuk has obviously decided that I'm on my way out as I'm getting bombarded with wicker casket adverts... and this one which made me think of Spud.

Have a look at your V5C Registration Document and Vehicle details at items F.1 - Maximum Permissible Mass, G - Mass in Service, O.1 - Mass of a braked trailer & O.2. - Mass of an unbraked Trailer.
My 2005 Subaru Forester has F.1 2000, G 1565, O.1 2000 & O.2 750. If your 2004 Smart ForTwo has figures in there you'll be OK to tow whatever it says .... if you can get a tow bar for it...

Leave me alone, I think I know what I'm doing.
