rare code 33 (map) fault boost gauge reading 100%???

ok NA jibes aside.

left my rather fast bbr se in garage over winter
did some cleaning under bonnet but nothing major ( i could have knocked wires)

has just been in for a new cam , water pump , pully and service.

over winter the battery died ....
so left dead till taking it in for work. bought new battery.

had work done ,

HOWEVER .. get this.

picked up car.
put key in ignition .. 1st click . listen for fuel pump..ok..
but notice boost gauge bends off the scale to max.
start car.
missfire. lumpy all over the place not just on 1,2,3 or,4
error code 33...... never seen one of these before.
(phone willb,stevo,arron) not heard of 33 either.
also phoned muley ,geoff and dapink but no answer!
stevo says cas. arron vacum pipes .

wiggle pipes , undo stuff , hand over buttefly and listen for sucking...
nothing

in the end go to 33 code area .(bulkhead by wiper extention arm)
wiggle wires . car dies
undo connectors ... corroded.REALLY POWDERY... wd40 .. jumps into life.. bit lumpy untill had a chance to drive it a bit hard to blow through the over fueling.

boosted 4 time without an error code (ever though the boost gauge is still at 100%) i actually expected an error code or get you home mode .. but nope all fine...

so after all that the only problem i have is a boost gauge reading 100%.
its not (but will re check after clearing codes) showing 33 as that was the powdery connectors on the Map sensor on the bulk head AND the 2 x connectors just underneath it ..

so why the boost gauge at max....

where is it getting its live from as if i wire the "nipple end" to the earth wire on that turbo thing on the left hand wing (i don't have on on the na) the gauge goes to zero.. is that only because i earthed it?

It is tempting to throw an NA comment your way, Clemo.
It does sound like a bad connection at the transducer. I have not had to fault-find mine yet...so I don't know the answer.
Mr Smith will be along soon. Very little escapes his notice on here I expect he'll have an answer for you.

In the mean time, put your foot down and smile when the turbo spools up (sorry, couldn't resist)

Sounds like a dodgy earth to me.The transducer/gauge and the map sensor might share the same one?

UPDATE - according to the manual - they don't. Could still be the earth though and other electrical gremlins lurking in that part of the engine bay - which is near where the cam belt cover is ...


The good news it that it sounds like it is working now (apart from the gauge..)
