raft bushing stuck

Postby norman lovie » Sun 02.09.2012, 12:32

got a problem removing the near side raft rear bushing bolt ( bolt 12 - undeframe diagram)
the one that goes through the underframe assembly - through the bushing and into chassis
The bolt is loose, but it is pulling the bushing inner with it and hence all that's happening when I unscrew it is the bottom plate of underframe assembly is bending
Obviously the bushing inner bush is seized to the shank of the bolt
trying hammering back on the underframe plate with an oversized socket ( been soaked in lub for a few days)
trying jacking up on the same socket to hopefully push back on the stuck bushing - but it will not budge
don't want to try removing any further cause its just going to bend the underframe bottom plate

so, my thoughts are to cut the head of the bolt off, to enable the Raft assembly to be pulled down off the shank of the bolt ( i,m assuming the Bush inner is separated from the bonded rubber as it is turning with the bolt)
Note: i,ve got the engine out, so i,ll be taking the underframe with the raft off the bolt shank together

I can then remove the bolt shank from the chassis ( the torque is free)

can you see a reason why this will not work ?, if I commit to cutting the head of the bolt off - i,m - well kinda committed

sorted, this worked - both sides were stuck, you've got to turn the bolt enough to shear the bushing rubber - you know when it goes

how the heck would you solve this with the engine in place ? - drill the bolt out - that would be fun

Can't say I had a problem removing the bolts but removing the bush from the raft was fun :bonk:

The front bush seems to suffer less than the rear,..... new bush on rear old bush on front

thats the one, thanks Trig - ps can you fwd your e-mail address and i,ll fwd some picks of my roll cage template
I got the old bush out by
1) noting the centre bush came with the bolt - so you will need to drill along side it until you get it out first
2) hacksaw the bush outer sleeve via the hole in the bush you just made taking out the centre bush, one cut almost through the bush then a good chap with a chisel and she'll come out
