IDLE SPEED

Postby sprogg7 » Fri 07.09.2012, 16:36

Hi there

just brought my first elan and i am having a few minor problems.

the main one is that the engine seems to idle at about 1000 rpm hot or cold but jumps up to about 1200rpm (hot or cold) then back down
i took it to my local garage who really didnt have a clue.
any ideas where i can start looking to try and fix the problem

cheers

Check for a leak in the vacum side. Favorite is one of them around the plenum. There are a couple on the back and one on the left side. If they all look ok then pull one off and see if the idle rises which shows that there isn't an obvious leak.

Agree with good advice above.
Your local garage should have suspected the same, whether it was a Lotus or anything else.
