Hi Guys,

As i only have my elan a couple of weeks now and realy can your input to solve my problem , here goes my story.

i was driving on the highway this weekend , wanted to pas an other car and punched the pedal down in 4 th gear .
car started the pull up en then cut out and the engine light came on but pulled again half a second later ....
the rest of the weekend the car just drove as usual boosting up to almost 1bar, i have a MBC installed.
just did the check with the paperclip and got a error code 31.... overboost ???

then since yesterday the car wont boost higher then 0,75 bar ....

any thoughts ???

Basically, the ECU has a protection system that cuts the engine if the boost levels exceed a safe point which is about 0.96 bar. At this point the fuel system is unable to supply enough fuel to stop the engine running lean. To avoid potential damage the cuts the engine untill the boost drops to a safe level.

In relation to the MBC, there are many people on this forum that will recommend removing this devise. The ECU is trying to controll the boost but can't which means it is unable to control the air to fuel mix properly. The recommended option is to install a mountain chip that is a remapped ECU eeprom that will give you the boost levels you have been experiancing whislt maintaning safe operation of the engine.

I don't have an upgraded chip yet (it is on the list of to dos) but from all the reports on here, it's the easiest and safest way to increase power output.

I'm not sure why the boost levels now are lower than before but it could be a combination of the guage reading incorrectly (they aren't very accurate) or the MBC has been bumped/changed its setting when teh fuel cut occured.

This is my 2 censt but I'm sure others will chip in with their advice.
