engine holds back

Hi Folks,

Could use your help.... when i am driving my baby and the boost is set to 0.6 bar or so ( MBC) she is running fine in all gears, when i boost the pressure a little higher ( 0.85 on the gauge) it runs great in 1 and 2 nd , no issues , but in 3 th gear it starts good the boost comes on ,no CEL, but it feels like it does not get enough fuel and holds back in the higher revs for a moment and then puls again and holds back and pulls again....

i am trying to find a elanscan cable so i can do some run's , can somebody help me with that ?

any idea's or people that had the same in the past ?

I can't help with your problem directly apart from suggesting you check all your sensors. Elanscan cable is available here .

Just check what plug you have behind the glovebox: ease the stop on the box and drop it down fully to gain decent access.

I have my cable on order .... hope to have it next week ...
ordered a timing light aswell to check my base timing , just to check if that is not the issue...

did some more searching as i am living in Houston Texas and the temp is always nice and hot overhere i saw that the temp of my car is always 1/2 of the scale in nomal highway conditions..
looked at the water and oilcooler and the oilcooler seems to be completly blocked, taking my baby to the diy carwash later today to get rid of the dirt .... hopefully that helps,
dound out yesterday taht only one cooling fan comes on, have to check the fuses tonight to see if one is blown .... hope its just that , can you get replacement fans, if needed ?

Hi guys,

Giving you an update , and could use some more of your advice...

After finally finding some time, i checked my sparkplugs ... and the where gapped to big ... gapped them on 0,8mm . Next thing on my list today... engine timing ... but didn't have the correct wheelkey .... , result of the day my baby doesn"t hold back anymore . the only thing i had in 5th gear was code 31.... so i need to hook her up with elanscan.... maybe boostcreep ??? didn't see any thing strange on the boostgauge ... running about 0,75 bar of boost on the gauge now...

I did order my ALDL cable a couple of weeks ago but i didn't receive it ... not even an email...does somebody have contact information so i can check up on my order ???

The fault codes are in the wiki & 31 is indeed overboost..

The site for Elanscan cables is run by geoffsmith . He is this forum's highest poster so is usually very active on here, but lately he has been a little less active than usual so I expect other things have been keeping him busy. If you look up his profile & send him a PM or e-mail, I am sure he will respond.

Still waiting on my ALDL cable ... need it as i get unclear 31 codes.

When the car is still getting to temp there is no overboost and the gauge shows about 0.75 bar, but once the engine is warm even with the boostgauge not passing 0.75 i get the ECL on with code 31....

any sugestions ???

Mine used to overboost at 4100 rpm & well under 0.75bar before I tweaked my ignition timing. It was almost undriveable.
It is now well in advance of where it was set with a timing light. If you do this, you must use Elanscan to ensure your engine is running knock-free.

Hi All,

update, i had some time today to pull the frontwheel and check the engine timing. when i checked the timing in cervice mode (CRL constantly blinking) it was advanced a lot and not even close to the scale ..... then i adjusted it as much as i clould and the mark didn't even got on the scale ......, tryed to drive it and it drove like s**t. readjusted it on the sounds of the engine and it was driving better. after a few more tweaks its now boosting when she is warm and not giving me a code 31 anymore .

So far so good, if i receive my adld cable i am going to check my base timing in that way , on thing bugs me ... how can it be that i need to advance my timing mark way of the scale to get it running wright ???? maybe it could run even better as i don't know now what timing its running ....

Hi Tom

Glad to hear that your car is running better. I had the same problem when I got my car. I changed the plugs and wires and that cured my problem.

Good luck with setting the timing and keep us apprised, I'm interested in how you make out.

It took a while for me to receive my ALDL cable from Geoff, he is a busy man from what I hear.

Hi,

to give you an update , base timing is not jumping around anymore, it was a loose timebelt , so replaced the belt ,

at one given time the car wouldnt go higher then 3000 rpm.... exhaust blocked .... catalic converter removed ... ok now .

so far so good
