Brakes

Postby barefoot » Fri 08.03.2013, 22:32

My car has the front Vectra brake conversion and at times when using the car in earnest under heavy braking the car feels that it could swap ends if I had a bit of lock on! Has anyone else with a front brake conversion felt this and if so what have they done to alleviate the problem?

My Elan has always tried to make an initial wiggle to the left under heavy braking before settling down. It has always doen this before & after replacing all 4 calipers.
Some have found that the better front brakes bias the split to the front slightly. Fitting HiSpec rears helps redress the balance & makes the car feel more stable.

Mine does that wiggle thing..but it did it to a lesser degree when I had the original front calipers on before the hi-specs...When MOTed it can be clearly seen to have less power on the front right and left rear, I have eventually narrowed it down to the master cylinder.

I have recon rear stock calipers and I have never thought the car felt unstable with my hi-specs on the front at all!
