electrical fault

HELP!
In a rush and without thinking I have attached a battery charger to my battery the wrong way round...yes i know. You don't need to say anything. The battery charger fuse blew immediately, but at the same time the car horn made a muted sound and I now have no electrics at all. totally dead. I can't find a blown fuse anywhere (hope i am checking them all but can't find a big master fuse) so don't know where to look next. Hoping there is a simple reset button somewhere..... Any help much appreciated.

Where did you connect the charger? Direct to the battery or somewhere else?

Direct to the battery.

You shouldn't have blown a fuse on the car then. I guess the battery was a bit flaky and connecting the charger the wrong way round has dragged the voltage way down which may have caused the alarm to play silly buggers and try sounding the horn. I would disconnect the battery and put it on charge and try again once it is well charged.

OK Thanks. Trying it immeditaely. I'll try another battery. Think i have one somewhere. Praying it is that simple.

Alternative battery seems to have done the trick! Panic over. many thanks for the quick reply. Very reassuring to know that help is on hand with my old girl....specially as i love her so but aren't so mechanically/electrically savvy. Learning slowly. Thanks agin.

Geoff's the electrical wizard, I'm only asking out of interest ...

Did you get any sounds when reconnecting the alternate battery ...for instance on my car the alarm siren would sound and need resetting ... or at least it would if I didn't have an isolation switch to stop it ... I was wondering if the horn sounded because it is one of the few items wired the "opposite way round"
