Hi,

I can see you've asked about a few things which are unplugged.
Is this after some work or have you just bought the car & are trying to find why things seem to have been disconnected?

The reason I ask is that (like most cars) then Elan has a wiring loom but not all connections are necessarily used for all cars, so the conenctions you ask about may be intended to stay unused.
I believe the one in this thread is unused in my Elan too.

I purchased the car with the engine out
the previous owner had passed away- may he RIP...
so we have no 'before" to compare with
The car has not been running for years
so we are faced with a lot of challenges, trials and errors,

I am not a mechanic, but I am getting good help fixing all parts back in to the car, we think we are close to the end!
but with no Lotus Elan experts here, we are relying a lot on the the information and photos I can find on line
This forum, is by far the best help!!

I believe the one in this thread is unused in my Elan too.

Pretty certain I've got that one unused as well, but the Elan isn't here so I can't double check!

Basically, as RIP says, they made a "1 size fits all" loom for the Elan, so there are connectors for 'closed loop' sensors, on an 'open loop' car (unused).... connectors for 'options' which may or may not be fitted etc etc.

This is most obvious on an NA Elan, as it has a quite basic electrical system compared to the SE.

Anyway, specifically for you, these wires are in the right area for connecting to bits of the Air Con system........ if you have Air Con, then they should find a home, if you don't, then they will remain unused.

Depending on how long the car has been sitting without an engine etc (and in what weather conditions) - you can sometimes see the difference between a recently-disconnected wire and one which has always been undone.....just the colour/corrosion of the metal end bits.

It may help to know exactly what spec your car is. Then it can be compared to others which are (or should be) similar.

So far you've mentioned it is a 1991 car. You asked about the air intake/inner wing grommet, so it is an SE (turbo) & will therefore have power steering.
I can see your location in Germany but it is actually a German car, or imported from somewhere else? So is it left or right-hand drive?
UK SEs did not have a lambda (Oxygen) sensor. Some had all of the wiring but some had some missing. I believe all had the connectors though. If yours had a lambda sensor, it will be visible. This looks a little like a spark plug poking upwards from the exhaust through a large hole in the turbo's heat shield. If you don't have one of these, you will have a large blanking bolt in its place.
Does yours have air con? I'm not that familiar with the set-up of air con but I think they are connectors for it next to your hand in the photo earlier in this thread?

The A/C trinary switch wiring is 4 wires and 2 white plugs.

The boost control valve is the round thing you can see at the end of your fingers in the picture.
