PAS Pipe Clip

Postby Fredjohn » Mon 27.04.2020, 19:17

Can someone solve this weird problem. Not car threatening, but intriguing.

The low pressure PAS reservoir to pump pipe is attached to the bulkhead with the usual rubber/metal P clip. A spacer is behind it as is an L shaped bracket. Fastened to this bracket is a plastic cable tie, which goes around the PAS pipe. Mine is broken though.

What is the purpose of this L bracket and cable tie though?????? The pipe is held by the P clip, so why double up with the cable tie?

I could follow Lotus philosophy by removing the L bracket and cable tie and thus add lightness.

Any ideas thoughts reasons as to why the bracket and cable tie are there?

Off the top of my head… isn't the cable tie for the rack to reservoir pipe that crosses the low pressure pipe? The diagram implies the clips are orthogonal.

Thanks Geoff: hadn't realised the pipes were quite so close, but knew they crossed each other orthoganally as I saw them after removal of bracket and P clip.

I'd wrongly assumed the P clip and cable tie were on the same pipe.

Will now search for replacement cable tie, although I doubt I can get my hands in to attach it!

EDIT
Found "winged cable tie" loads on Ebay. 10 for £2 or so depending on size. Anybody want one after I've had mine?Only 80p incl p&p each!!!!
