Engine cutout

Hi everyone.
I've just become a proud owner of Lotus Elan m100 s2 and I'm as pleased as punch as they say! However on the 150 mile journey home the car performed really well until about 5 miles from home. I came off the motorway having cruised at a steady 70 MPH and the car performed faultlessly up to this point apart from the temp gage illumination does work and very occasionally the dash lights would flicker!

However the main concern is that when I came off the motorway and joined an A road, and negotiated a couple of round-abouts and then had a straight bit of road. I accelerated hard got back up to 70 mph and the engine cut out, no warning or strange noises, just the red oil light!, but lights etc all stated on! I feared the worst and costed to a layby, however once stopped the car started straight away!! Has anyone got any idea what this might be?

i had similar synmptoms in the past, in my case what happened was the engine ground which is connected near the PAS reservoir and the fuel rail was not bolted in properly and when the connection dropped the whole engine would die for whatever long it was until the usual road/engine vibrations made the eyelet establish a stable connection.

Check the integrity of the wires going to the throttle control at rear of engine bay. In my case the red wire was down to one filament. Same symptoms you describe.
