Any tips on removing rounded screw head on IAC

Hi all
Any one got any good suggestions for removing the rounded head on the screws that hold to IAC valve. Was hoping to remove to check and clean up. The rear screw I can move but the front screw which can be seen has obviously given someone an issue in the past and is stuck. None of the drivers I have will turn it and I suspect this has been the case for a while. Am considering cutting a slot but don’t want to risk more damage or worse!

i had that issue before.

afriad i dont have good news for you in my expeirence its too hard to reach there with a dremel.
i ended up removing the intake plenum in order to make space to use a dremel. and finally remove it with a screwdriver.

The head broke….but the other screw did come out very easy. Question.. will fixing with one screw likely cause any other issues issue and should the plunger move by hand?

from what i remember. the plunger shouldnt move by hand

when i had it out i was under the impression it was installed on a thread with a stepper motor controlling the movement. but this is al conjecture.

if you took the intake plenum out. it shouldnt be dificult to drill the screw and just put an helicoil in to fix it.

i would not risk installing with a single screw personally. althoguht its not likely to be under a lot of stress. given the amount of effort it took to remove the plenum (i found it to be a very annoying task, for context, more annoying than a alternator OR timing belt change IMO). i would play safe.

Didn’t remove the plenum. The screw was very stiff and as head was rounded I managed to get with the drimmel and cut a groove. On turning the head snapped suspected it was rusted solid. So I am now left with the IAC removed. Looks like the rubber washer may still be in the housing as I note there isn’t one on mine and a new part appears to have one installed. I have noted that the new valve on SJS website (now ordered) is compressed in with a holding clip.

seems like my memory fails me..

you can always give it a try. you may find theres a leak there when under boost only way to find out is to try it i guess.
