Warning Light on Dashboard

The main warning light is now permanently on when I run my 1990 Elan SE Turbo.
It started to come on intermittently (on braking) and then go out again quickly.
I topped up the brake fluid (although I could only fit a couple of tablespoons full in) and the problem went.
It is now back albeit the front pads/discs are brand new and the fluid level is max.
Any ideas as to what else may be causing the warning light to stay on?

just unsure as to which light you mean.....
the 'tell tales' which you need to worry about are
the brakes (an apostrophe in a circle)
oil pressure (an oil can)
battery (a pic of battery..means not charging)
catalyst over heat (looks like a BBQ)
engine check (sort of box witha lightnening bolt through it)
these are in that order across the dash.....which one???

ps Ive missed out washer bottle, handbrake, indicators etc etc etc

Sorry, it's the Brake light (circle with apostrophe).
I'm going to check the connections at the resevoir now I think about it.
Do the rear brakes have any sensors for low wearing pads? Ive only ever seen them at the front on other cars - I didn't see any connections when I replaced the front pads recently?

Not received the feedback I'd joped for here.
I can't get the brake warning light to go out!!



The full story is that I recently changed the front disc and pads (kevlar and slots upgrade) - standard disc size existing calipers.

Can someone guide a novice like me please?

Is there a brake sensor attached the the front/rear breake pads that I missed? I think not.
Is there a sensor in the resevoir? I think yes, but cannot see any connection.

Normally there is a connetor on the cap of the brake fluid resevoir when this is the case - I don't seem to have anything.
Is it possible that I knocked it off when undoing the cap and it has dropped somewhere?

Any help/images on where/what the brake fluid sensors are would be welcome - otherwise its the garage.

Is your brake reservoir absolutely full to the brim...if not, this will cause the light to be on.

It's almost to the brim - I'll fill it right up and see what happens!
Does anyone know why it should be like this?
Why does it have a maximum level mark?

Brake fluid reservoir up to the brim but the sodding light still won't go out.
Any ideas?
Was thinking of replacing the brake hoses with steel braided and using the opportunity to bleed out the old fluid. Get the feeling the light will still stay on!

Never did manage to get the light to go out - I've just got used to it being on.
Can someone simply confirm whether the brake fluid resevoir has a sensor attached to it - Yes/No?

Any other ideas welcome.

There is a sensor in the reservoir, towards the rear.

Does the handbrake use the same warning light? If so it could just need the switch repositioning

A question that I'm sure many know the answer to but I will need to check - However, what do you mean by 'repositioning' the switch?
