Difficult in starting

Postby Danevansgolf » Mon 15.09.2014, 09:21

Hi there. My car has all of a sudden decided on taking a long time to get started..
What happens is that, you turn the key, here the fuel pump work( so can't be fuel related I think). Then the car turns over but takes about 5-10 seconds before firing up.. I have changed the plugs and the ht leads and put a new battery on and still problem hasn't been fixed. Can any one help on this matter. The car was working perfect before. I had put a mountain chip on, this is when the problem occurred, so I took it out for now. Once taken out the problem is still the same.. My concern is that I'm going to flatten the new battery along the way.

I recall there being a "hard start" fault-finding flowchart in the manual, but from memory I couldn't tell you exactly where it is. If you haven't already done so, it would be worth downloading the manuals (see link below the page banner) and having a browse.
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

it's in the Engine Management Manual Section EMK 6.2
Would also be worth getting an Elanscan from dead cold if you can, zip it & post it up.
Suggest: Start Logging, Switch igniton on but don't start, wait 10 secs, start engine, take it for a run, at end of run wait 10 seconds at idle before switching off, wait a further 10 secs before stop logging.

Does anyone have the elanscan cable, which I can borrow for a week or two, needs to be with the usb on the other end. If anyone fancies posting me one, much appreciated. Just pm me and I'll pass my address on. I'll pay for postage, or just donate to lec. Thanks .
