Bad starting cold

Good evening all fellow ELAN owners
I have a problem with starting my ELan. When it is cold it is hard tostart .I have had my elan for 4 years and it has always started first time since recently. Now it spins for around 10 seconds on starter motor and try's to fire up chugging into life eventerly with lots of unburnt fuel to burn off. Once started it runs smooth boosts fine. If I turn it Off once warm it fires up straight away most of the time I have changed Throttle position sensor , coolant temperture sensor new spark plugs and have had fuel injectors checked and cleaned timing checked can any one help to solve issue so it will go back to when I purchased car. It's embrassing trying to start the car and will evenently not start I exspect killing battery .

I currently have the exact same problem. Along with what you've changed I've also changed the ht leads aswell, and put a new battery on. Car is off the road at the moment, winter jobs in the go.. Quick update. Don't suppose you fitted a mountain chip recently?

Sorry to hear about your starting troubles.
Did you already do a paperclip test?

If this shows nothing, than my guess would be either a temperature sensor (CTS or MAT) or perhaps a hanging fuel injector.
When no fault codes you could try a fuel injection cleaner additive in your petrol and measure the resistance over CTS and MAT

Also please don't PM each other with solutions! When you keep the discussion public you'll get more help / pointers, and others with the same problem can learn from the topic as well

you seem to have looked in the obvious places - wonder if you've got an issue with the secondary throttle control - i.e. are they sitting open ? maybe the vacuum hose feed has popped off or split

I have just changed the CTS made slight improvement but issue still there. The cel light came on and paper clip test flashed up cts low reading so I have changed it. I do have mountain chip fitted have taken it out because I too thought it might have gone bad but no problem still there so I have put it back in. Have not looked at mat sensor have also bought idle air control valve but not fitted that yet. All of the vacuum pipes look ok but might change them anyway.

Did your problem arise once the chip was installed initially ? When I fitted my chip the problem started, I removed the chip and it made no difference, so I put it back in. So it was either a coincidence when installing a chip or not, who knows. I will be changing my fuel filter next week( as I haven't ever done it, then will be changing the Hall effect sensor, then be checking the timing. Will update after this.

As Geoff said check for top dead centre on the timing . Mine was out and popped farted backfired stank of unburnt fuel.
