Whilst Investigating a Fuel Smell I kinked a......

One of my S2s smells a bit fuelley, petrol smell at the rear, not exhaust smell, neat petrol.
Started to investigate today, carpet out of the rear stowage area and panels covering fuel pump and filter removed. Very pongey in this area, doesn't seem to be around the fuel filler area.
Couldn't see anything, no obvious damaged pipes or leaks, just vapour smells. Whilst i was there I thought i might as well change the fuel filter as I had a spare with a couple of the O ring seals.
People who have changed it know it can be a bit awkward as there are hard pipes mounted onto connectors.
Well one had already been changed to a straight forward fuel pipe and jubilee clip but the other was standard.
Buggering around with the other one trying to get a bit more access to it I realised later that i had put a kink in it a couple of inches higher up . Now this is the one that goes up around the fuel pump neck and down behind the tank towards the front of the car. I don't really want to replace the whole pipe if i can help it.

Can I/is it advisable to cut the kinked part out and try and join it somehow ? looks like if you want to use inline connectors on the nylon line you need to heat the nylon tube but you can't get up into where the fuel line is with hot water or a hair dryer !!

Looks like you might be able to buy some inline compression fittings is this my only option without replacing the whole line ?
