Thanks for comments Kens
Ive checked the plugs and swapped them about with no effect.
Ive become convinced it vacuum related now although I think ill try the coil position swap anyway..
I think changing the HT leads and as they are a smaller diameter , ive noticed twisting the strobe light inductive sensor when clamped on can improve the visible spark rate and so may be a complete red herring,. except now and again on No.3 only now, i still notice a lost spark when the engine speed dips..
Looking at my latest scan, idling in the garage., its seems the fluctuating engine speed coincides with a change in manifold vacuum. Ive fitted a non return valve in the oil separator pipe to the inlet side of the air filter , but vacuum still wandering and the valve makes a pronounced high frequency moaning noise .. So much that i initially thought the blower or the water pump or something had gone west, Ive removed it now . It was causing some crankcase pressure.
I think i will swap the coils round tomorrow and then try a plug in the fuel pressure reg vacuum take off plenum spigot and then manually apply a steady vacuum -ve pressure to reg valve to see if its the reg fluctuating causing my engine speed falling.
On the attached scan
Actual time at 180 secs i stopped the engine so i could top up the water header and find where i had put the cap!!
Around 800secs switched to service to adjust IAC by pass screw. 1050 back out of service.
To pick just one point when the engine speed dipped at 585 sec the manifold pressure increased to 0.46 bar . Advance 25.7 degrees
I find it odd that even idling in service mode i can see the spark advance wandering about . This also coincides with the engine speed and vacuum fluctuations,.
Ive been checking all the obvious places for vacuum losses but can find anything ,
Any observations welcome and thanks for all the suggestions.
