Hard Start Code 22 problem. Engine fires will not run.

Recently I have had problems starting the engine when the car has been left overnight in the garage. The engine will "fire" and the cel light will come on and the engine will then stall.

When swithcing off ignition and going through "start up" procedure letting the fuel pump energize and sensors check and waiting 5 secs, the engine would start run high idle and cel light stay "on". After driving a short distance cel light would go out and car ran normal.

This only happens when engine is cold. When warm the engine fires up first time.

Before starting the engine and checking wiring going into the TPS it was found that the 4 wires are pinched together going through a rubber cover and were touching each other. After seperating the wires and spraying WD40 the startup proceedure was tried.

The car "fired up " perfectly and idles settles down after a while to normal 950rpm.

It would appear that the ECM if it can not find a signal from the TPS
sensor "fires up" rich hence the stating problem as the ECM substitues
an artifical value. If you are having s similar start up problem then it might be worth while checking the wiring going into the TPS through the black rubber cover to make sure non are touching.
