attempted theft of my car!

over the weekend some pikey bas***ds tried stealing my car, was wondering where and cost of a new ignition switch that sits on the back of the barrel, there is no damage to the barrel itself just the switch as been snapped off, grrrrrrrrrr so angry as they nicked my (CD) auto changer. CD,s and other bits makes me sick 1st time in five years of owning my elan that anything tlike this as happened. any help greatly received

this really gets my blood boiling...

but brings me nicely to this point...
As LEC we all know our cars , we know each others cars , we see other cars in the street, we also buy or go along with outher to buy .. i think you get my drift...

NOW...
i don't know who would be best to set it up ..
BUT..
if we had our own window etching that signified the car as a LEC car and registered it to the LEC owner , then as cars got sold on we could trace previous owners , and more so IF CARS GOT STOLEN we could track down our members cars...
I have an original set of unused lotus alarmed car stickers , that could be modified to include a LEC LOGO ..and a clear space could be left for a window etch number and maybe somthing under the bonnet..

whist typing i have just thought that prehaps the number should be the one stamped on the rear suspension turret???
Just a thought ?
any further ideas post away?

The electrical switch on the back of the barrel is the same fitting as many Vauxhall cars (period cars such as nova etc), only the electrical connections are a spade fitting, and there is an 'ancillary' position for powering the radio etc. They are not that expensive from an auto factor...

Things like window etching and other identificaiton schemes are great for identifying your car parts as they lay on the floor of a "chop-shop" but don't do much to stop the theft to begin with. A good alarm system with wireless notification will go a long way to preventing the theft or vandalism to begin with. I use a Viper 5000 alarm and its got plenty of bells and whistles (so to speak) to reduce theft/vanadalism occurances.

Could go the route of GPS tracking as well but now we're getting into a lot of money..............
