On my 1992, IIRC the connector is a push and click fit (pinch together to release).
I am not entirely sure how the "new" type in the second picture
http://www.lotuselancentral.com/repair/cas.htm fits together but the CAS metal spindle must pass through the HES "gap/groove " smoothly without touching. Follow the instructions and you won't go wrong, Charlies write up is good
http://www.charliex.net/camangle.htm
Sorry, don't know about the CAS seal.

I got something like
this. You should find any decent motor factor or independent garage carries something similar and will sell you one for less than a quid. I got a box because it's a 25 mile round trip to my motor factors, they're usually shut when you want one OR your hand and clothes are covered in dirt.
At £10 vs 2 x £4.31 for Lotus CAS seals, it pays for itself first time out!

HES update...
Removed old HES... 5 minutes
Cut off connector... 1 minute
Rewire new plug... 20 minutes
fitted new Sensor.. 5 minutes
Failed to get clearance on the arm...Priceless...(and not top and bottom...end on..

)
The HES pick up head was loose on one rivet and not drawn down on the other...
No wonder they're knocking them out a 20 quid..
Off to the workshop to see if I can redeem this HES...
on a final note, Geoff how did you do your rear CAS blank seal...

Dave,
You can't get at it from the end because of the wiring loom - with the CAS off and the CTS unplugged, I think you can get at the bolt with an open ended spanner. Let me know how you get on!

You could always whip the cam cover off - then its dead easy to get at!

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

The breather pipe outlet is a pain in the bum.. so it was an option..
but I didn't..
Sorted The HES... re-riveted...
Code 42 still apparent.. So I guess I'm another who replaced their HES that didn't need to..
I should get my new leads soon...(Then coils if required)
Failing that I guess I'll wait for Geoff's electrical piece of String..
The annoying thing is.. the car performs fine and has an intermittent problem..

Update...
My HT leads came in from state side...
removed the coils and inspected the little fellas... no corrosion...
slight corrosion on the earth wire... cleaned...
new leads fitted... problem gone...
car seels more responsive... guess those old leads were bad..
so to recap code 42 sorted by new HT leads
