Please help having problem with new elan i just got

Hi there, am calling out for help, the problem is with my lotus elan se turbro J Reg the problem ive got its once drive the car past 4500 rpm the break and slow down the engine mangme ligth come on to, but if drive slower and take my time to get up speed it work fine, i was told by guy who put it into the computer that it could be map sencer could this be the problem or could it be some else has well would any1 know whew i could get rplace map sence to for the elan hope i can get this fixed soon so ican get back out in it again soon has hope any1 can help us out thanks

Hello there, and welcome to the joys of Elan ownership... trust me it is worth it.

From what you describe I think it may be the Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) but before we leap into technical solutions I suggest you try a bit of detective work, as follows:

Step #1. The famous Paperclip Test
There is a very good write up here: Decoding the Check Engine Light

If the code given by the flashing light is the popular 41, then it is the Cam Angle Sensor, which can be fixed by following the instructions here...

Step #2. Replacing the Cam Angle Sensor

However you may also want to replace the Oxygen sensor at the same time if your car has one ( Oxygen Sensor Replacement ) as problems with one tends to cause issues with the other.

Other than that, I'd suggest posting what you find from the paperclip test here and the amazingly helpful people on LEC will help you out.

Welcome to the forum. I have found LEC to be a very friendly and helpful community. I hope you have the same experience.

The forum really has helped to make an exotic (hence unaffordable) car into a something I can work on myself.

I agree that it sounds like your Hall Effect Sensor, which is inside the CAS. The original HES was prone to failure, but I belive your replacement will be of a new design.
It is unfortunate that this has gone on your Elan so soon into your ownership. I hope it has not put you off because the Elan really is not much of a problem to look after.
