Gas Tank Problem

Guys...<br><br>Just got my 1990 Elan 2 weeks ago and I love it. It just has one problem, the gas tank has a hole in it (probably by some idiot a few years back installing speakers).<br><br>Since it's a plastic tank, my Mechanic here in Singapore has no idea how to fix it. Name: Allan, living in Singapore and last month I got myself my 3rd Lotus Elan (M100) in the last 10 years. I've been following this site since 2000.

Met David Hobman some time back when I was deciding to sell off parts that I removed from my 1st Elan before sending it to the scrapyard. After months of searhing found an Elan that was worth buying.(Parts no longer for sale)

Just got back from Seoul,Korea, bought a new fuel tank for the Elan from Mobis (Kia & Hyundai) for Korean Won 161,200 = US$160.00. Also bought a pair of Front calipers from Daewoo that fits the Elan, its from a 1996 Daewoo Espero. I've used these Calipers before on my 2nd Elan, it works great and the car actually stops. (KW 110,000 = US110.00 / pair) Daewoo had the same problem as the Elan and were originally using the same calipers as the Lotus Elan. Daewoo later upgraded the calipers to the 'C' type which is the one I've used previously.

I have photos, part numbers and contacts, if anybody needs it, can contact me. Years of frustrations and tired of getting ripped off by workshops has made me smarter. also just bought seal beams for US$5/- each in Singapore. (Japanese Truck headlights) Headlights in Korea were expensive, L&R cost almost US$440/-.

Very interesting news on those parts Allan. especially the calipers.

Don't expect a Lotus recall if someone's stuck a self-tapper or drill through the tank.

I was in Singapore visiting a friend recently and he said that you weren't allowed to drive a car over a certain age (c. 5 years old?). Do they make a (worthy) exception then for the Elan?

I haven't seen any drivers under 5 yet!
