stalling

Postby stevebow » Tue 24.11.2009, 16:08

Got a problem with my elan it stalls when you just touch the throttle pedal a little like when parking, it will idle fine and drives fine apart from some exhaust popping on lift off (it's not the standard exhaust don't know what it is) this started about a year ago just after an MOT they had to adjust the co2, it hasn't got worse or better. can anyone suggest where to start looking, I have elanscan and a mechanic mate so hopefully with a few pointers from the experts we can get it fixed.

I don't know about the stalling, but the popping is usually a sign that the timing is out.
My timing is now advanced 16 degrees further than it should be. This has cleaned up my (previously very sooty) exhaust, cured my 4000rpm overboost issue, eliminated overrun popping & given me about twice the power of what I had when my timing was 'correct'.

I set my timing by doing a controlled 30-70 in 4th until I got the time taken down to a minimum then used Elanscan to check that I was getting no knock.
