Hesitation

Hi all,

When I accelerate hard at speed I get momentary hesitation then pickup then hesitation again and so on.
This is normally at about 80/90 mph. I haven't tried this at slower speeds. Does this sound like a
sticking wastegate? I find in normal driving I rarely resort to boost, just when having fun.

If you have a sticking wastegate you get ballistic acceleration caused by boost that virtually goes off the scale.
Then there's a cut so ferocious that you almost end up head-butting the steering wheel.
This is followed by 20-30 seconds of the car being flat as a fart and with the check engine light blinking at you, before normal service is resumed.
It is extremely dramatic, and there's no mistaking it.

More common is a hesitancy caused by coil packs or occasionally leads beginning to fail. This is very gentle in comparison, and doesn't usually cause a Check Engine Light.

Thanks for the swift response.
I suppose replacing the plug leads will be the easiest route to deciding which it is.
They are probably past their best anyway.
In normal driving there is no problem and it sounds and feels smooth.

Surprisingly, coil packs tend to go before leads on our cars.

I would start by checking if your spark plugs are gapped @ 0.8 mm (easy and no cost involved)
If that is OK, then yes, Coils are suspected. You can get replacements @ MSD coils, also check the Wiki on this (which i currently am not able to visit???)

If you find you need an Ignition Control Module (the plate under the coil packs) I have a couple of NEW ones for $75.00 each + postage from the US.

All of the above will cause your symptoms. Mine was do to coils 1st time.
2nd time the 8mm leads 4 years old one shorted so replaced them all.
