When the ignition is on (not fired up) I can sometimes hear one of the injectors ticking? Is this likley to be the injector or a short on the wiring?

Is it when you do nothing or if the htrottle is being operated?
If it's with the throttle, it's normal - and a great diagnostic check to ensure the injectors (and wiring) are good - if it is just happening anyway, I don't have a clue - but it shouldn't!

Just a thought. As it is happening just as you've switched on and before starting up, is it the fuel pump priming itself?
I get a similar noise and, assuming it is the pump, I allow it to tick till it stops before I try to start the car.
