Checked ignition timing last week. Approx 19 degrees BTDC .reset to 16 BDTC . engine ran as smooth as ever .
Went out at the weekend ,accelerated fast then at about 5500 revs engine fault light came on and shut engine down .Lasted for about 4/5 seconds ,engine dropped to below 4000 revs and returned to normal. This happened twice.
Did the paper clip check when i got home but showed no faults.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

"...accelerated fast..."
Not an NA then!

Wastgate not working right? Sounds like the boost got too high and if you say ther is no mods then the wastgate must be sticking closed IMO

Engine not cut out since "that" day . Went out last night, accelerated at low revs , boost gauge went to " 1 " then returned to .5 .
Then went thru the gears to max revs . Boost gauge went to aprox 0.7 till turbo cut in at approx 5000 and then returned to 0.5 .
Is this normal ???

Were you getting a bar of boost consistently before? Does not sound like the engine is stock, then... Sounds like an FCD? I never had one, sure someone can elaborate if that sounds right to others. You might want to search for it in the forum.

Under this thread:
http://lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewt ... =fcd#51038
Nige gives instructions on how to locate:
2 ways to see if you have a BBR kit or indeed the home brewed version of the same.
First of all have a look at the hoses (small diameter) going from the turbo wastegate capsule to the Boost Solenoid Valve (BSV). If there is a manual valve between the turbo wastegate capsule and the BSV, or in the place of a disconnected BSV then you have some form of Manual Boost Controller (MBC) an adjustable valve is a MBC possibly a Rob C type, small plastic tube suggests BBR kit.
FCD is likely to be in a plastic box fastened on the rear engine bay bulkhead (have seen a photo of a BBR version in blue plastic box) the wiring from the box allows it to be inserted between the MAP sensor (also mounted on rear bulkhead) and the loom, the loom would otherwise connect directly to the MAP sensor.
Final thought, although unlikely, your wastegate may be sticking closed. However if this was the case then you would hit the fuel cut off, unless of course you have a FCD fitted - we now go full circle.
Hope that helps ???
If not, I'm sure someone will have a look for you at Donny. Have a search in the Turbos and boost section, also in upgrades there are photographs around in these areas which may help.
I am sure you will get better ideas from those *pretty much everyone* in the forum with more experience and mechanical ability, though!

May be a bleed valve type thing, .. I know you said engine is stock, may well be worth checking all hoses from turbo for any signs of splits.
