Optimal ignition tables

I have pics of a couple timing tables:

Graph 1:

Graph 2:

So my questions are, all things being equal....

Which of the two should theoretically produce more power?

Which of the two should theoretically be more prone to detonation?

I have been playing with ECUs again, and working with the E6GM and E6GMX has made me rethink some things. #1 is (or darned close) stock map. #2 is the map I have been running for the last couple years. I was surprised to see this much difference between the two.

Anybody here really sharp on ignition tables? 8)

Hmm... no input...

Well, apparently the answer (if there ever truly were a "all things being equal" scenario) would be graph 2.

It is interesting reading of timing tables; and even more interesting to me the variation that seems to exist; it really does seem to be a bit of a guessing game, even if you DO know what you are doing. Power could be more with less boost and more advance, or less advance and more boost, a lot of variables.

I did think this link was really interesting though -

www.streetrodstuff.com/Articles/Engine/Detonation/

It gives a lot of information as to the theory behind optimal ignitiong timing, etc. Some I knew already, but after reading through it I have a better understanding.

you may want to look into the theory behind MBT, or minimum timing advance for best torque. It is a very relevant topic to what you are trying to acheive.

here is some light reading to get you started http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm? ... 159&page=1
